Brecher Fishman Pasternack Walsh Tilker & Ziegler, P.C. has recently became aware that there are medical warnings attached to a certain prescription drug which you may have taken. Levaquin is an antibiotic drug which has been prescribed for lung, sinus, skin and urinary tract infection treatment. This medication has been linked to hundreds of cases of serious tendon injuries and tendon ruptures. In many instances, Levaquin tendon ruptures have required victims to undergo surgery and extensive rehab. This drug which is manufactured by Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals was recently forced to place a Black Box Warning by the FDA on July 8, 2008. A black box warning means that medical studies indicate that the drug carries a significant risk of serious or even life-threatening adverse affects.
This warning applies to any usage of the drug in tablet, capsule or injectable formulations.
These ruptures can occur during or after months after completion of the use of Levaquin. Signs or symptoms of a tendon rupture can include a snap or pop in the tendon area, bruising right after and injury tot he tendon area or inability to move the affected area or bear weight.
